Overview

SHOWDASD is an ISPF application to display on-line DASD volumes, free space information and obtain VTOC listings. SHOWDASD is free software, available in source-code format in the freeware section of this Web site. SHOWDASD consists of a REXX exec, an Assembler program, and an ISPF panel.

Invocation

SHOWDASD must be invoked during an on-line ISPF session, for example be entering the TSO SHOWDASD command. By default, SHOWDASD displays all of the DASD volumes currently on-line. Processing can be limited to specific volumes by entering a parameter in the command:

SHOWDASD xxxxxx limits the display to the xxxxxx volume
SHOWDASD yyy* limits the display to volumes whose serial numbers start with yyy
SHOWDASD SG=ALL limits the display to SMS-managed volumes
SHOWDASD SG=gggggggg limits the display to volumes in SMS Storage Group gggggggg
SHOWDASD SG=ggg* limits the display to volumes in SMS Storage Groups whose names start with ggg

Line Commands

The following line commands can be entered on the SHOWDASD panel to request the display of a secondary panel for the corresponding volume:

V display Volume Information using the undocumented SHOWVTOC service of the ISRUDL utility
S display data set list using the ISPF LMDDISP service
U display the storage address of the volume's UCB

Installation and Tailoring

SHOWDASD consists of four elements:

The SHOWDASD command itself, a TSO/E REXX exec
The SHOWDPNL and SHOWVTOC members, two ISPF panels
The RXSMS assembler program

To install SHOWDASD and make it available to ISPF/PDF users, proceed as follows:

download SHOWDASD from the freeware section of this Web site and load it onto your MVS system.
copy the SHOWDASD REXX exec to a REXX or CLIST library allocated to the TSO/ISPF session in the SYSEXEC or SYSPROC DD concatenations.
copy the SHOWDPNL and SHOWVTOC members to an ISPF Panel library (ISPPLIB)
copy the RXSMS load-module to a load-library accessible by ISPF applications.

Note: The SHOWDASD application is fully compatible with the ISPF LIBDEF service.
